GRIEF & THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Thanksgiving is sort of the start of a hard season for some of us. We're meant to feel thankful and joyous. We know that's not the reality for everyone, especially in our current world situation with COVID. Many have lost loved one's to it, many of us are being separated over the holidays because of it. It's confusing and hard. I'm here to say, don't feel guilty for not feeling gratitude or joy over these next few months. These emotions do not make you ungrateful, bitter or negative. They are just emotional moments.

That's it.

MOMENTS.

Acknowledge them and give them their time. It's part of the process, even if it makes you feel so far away from the person you are. Trying to force them away and be thankful or joyous will exhaust you and, honestly prolong those feelings.

I'm also here to say, on the other hand if this is the first time in a long time you've felt thankful, joyful or happy, definitely don't fight those feelings. I know it can feel foreign and almost a betrayal to your journey after being sad for so long. Don't feel guilty for being OK when other's aren't. Good and joyous feelings are also definitely allowed. So, with that I wish those feeling good a Happy Thanksgiving and for those not I'll say a big ol’ fuck the holidays and pass me another glass of vino! 🥂
