OSCARS BEST DRESSED 2022

The Oscars are basically the Superbowl for us basic bitches who love celebrities, movies & fashion. Though from what I saw polling online so many of us either haven’t seen any of the movies nominated, or don’t even bother to watch the Oscars anymore. I personally haven’t watched the Oscars since Leonardo DiCaprio finally won, so how many years ago was that? All I know is I still lived in my OLD house when that shit aired. Even though it’s been years since I’ve tuned in and I never watch any of the movies nominated, I’ve never stopped following the red carpet looks. Really, it’s the only reason I’m excited for the Oscars at all anymore.

To be honest though I was kind of underwhelmed by this years red carpet. There seemed to be a ton of cleavage on the red carpet this year, like a lot, and not just a little peek-a-boo cleavage but like boobage. I also found a lot of prom and pageant type dresses showed up, which is so not it and then some really casual choices and a lot of greasy hair. I mean if greasy hair is in then I can totally pull that off. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the looks but I wasn’t wow’d by many and the usual stand out fashion icons didn’t really deliver like I thought they would. I actually found the after party looks to be way more wowing than the actual Oscars red carpet. Maybe I need to make a roundup post of the all the after party styles instead? Given that I wasn’t super wow’d this list seems smaller than my usual, but I always try to go with who truly “took my breath” away look wise, vs. just posting a bunch of looks.

Mila Kunis in Zuhair Murad Couture

Not a shock she’s on the list as I said it outright in my stories that Mila’s rose pink silk dress was my favourite of the evening. It’s just got such a chic old style glam to it, but also being unique and different enough to stand out. I love the whimsical draping effect of this dress that flows beautifully from the one shoulder strap right through to the train. I think my favourite part of this dress is the petite built in belt, sometimes that can go so wrong with such an elegant dress but it works so well here. Truly the perfect choice for her tiny frame.

Simu Liu in Versace

DAMN is all I have to say. Whoever his stylist is did SO good with this choice for him. Now, to be fair I love red and I also love a man who isn’t afraid to not wear the typical black tux and well, Simu is Canadian and I gotta show love to any famous Canadian. But, again, DAMN. I’m not even sure what else to say because I’m completely smitten with him in this suit. I so dig that the suit accents, and his accessories actually, are in gold because gold and red is *chefs kiss*. I like that the pants tapered to the ankle, giving it a polished look and that he went sockless with the loafers. Though I’m not sure I’m loving the shoe choice, but I also have no suggestion for what my alternative shoe pick would have been so……

Timothee Chalamet in Louis Vuitton

We already know I love men’s looks that aren’t afraid to step out of the norm and the boring samesies of men’s formal fashion. Timothee is know for some out of the box looks so no shock he pushed the stuffy Oscars boundaries. He’s totally giving off Interview with a Vampire style vibes in this black sequin, san shirt, blazer look and chunky jewelry. My favourite part about the blazer is the lace, do we call them cuffs, sleeves? Whatever we decide to call them, I absolutely love the delicate detail of the lace. It’s a delicious contrast compared to the more edgy parts of the ensemble.

Sofia Carson in Giambattista Valli Couture

This reminded me a lot of Billie Eilish’s gown from last years Met Gala. I guess I’m just a sucker for tulle because I’m always drawn to any giant tulle dress that shows up on the red carpet. I love the added tulle acting as like a one shoulder strap/shawl and that the top tulle is sort of sheer and not heavy. Makes the dress sexy as sometimes tulle can come off as more of a juvenile look. Love that she went for a dramatic side part “up-do” hair style, the hair down probably would have been to much for a dress like this.

That’s my best dressed list for this year’s Oscars, short and sweet. Unlike the actual Oscar’s themselves.
